Professor Mohammad Waseem
I read the news of the sad demise of Dr Inayatullah with shock and dismay. He was a beaconlight for our scholars in general and social scientists in particular. Dr sahib will be long remembered by his friends for his untiring effort at saying the right things from public forums. We shall all miss him.
Professor Ashis Nandy
Though we knew Professor Inayatullah was in indifferent health, his death nonetheless comes as a shock. With his departure, our world too has shrunk. I remember the long chats we had a number of times, the last time at the India International Centre at Delhi. He was not only a great democrat but someone deeply concerned with the survival of public ethics in our part of the world. This is a personal loss to many of us.
On occasions such as these, letters such as these sound empty. All one can really say is that we your sorrow to a small extent at least. Please send us if any one writes on him in any newspaper or journal.

This is indeed very sad. I had the honour of working briefly with Dr. Inayatullah on social sciences research and always found him a very enlightened person, always willing to help and advise. His contribution to the social sciences and research through his own work and COSS is memorable. One way to remember him would be to bring out a social sciences volume in his honour.

Deep condolences, I always admired your father for his perseverance in the struggle for peace and fair development!

To Mrs. Dr. Inayatullah, his children, and all members of COSS:
I am highly grieved to hear about the tragic death of Dr. Inayatullah. His efforts in setting up the Council of Social Sciences (COSS, Pakistan) and the Dr. Akhter Hameed Khan Memorial Award shall always be remembered and admired. The first time I came to know about Dr. sahib was when he so kindly wrote to me about setting up an award to honor Dr. Khan and also sought my opinion on the subject; I would always be grateful to him for incorporating some of my suggestions. He honored me by encouraging me to join COSS and wrote "It will add to its strength and further raise our morale." He showed keen interest in my research on Allama Mashriqi and Khaksar Tehrik. He privileged me by sending one of his books which he co-edited (Social Sciences in Pakistan: A Profile). These are some of his memories that I shall always treasure.
Dr. Inayatullah's death is a tremendous loss to all the members of COSS. May God rest his soul in peace and grant courage to his family and COSS members to bear this irreparable loss.
My heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Dr. Inayatullah and his children.
